Peter Heywood was taken to Tahiti with other mutineers who chose to return to England. They were picked up by the HMS Pandora and faced trial. Heywood was sentenced to death by court martial on 18 September 1792 but was reprieved by royal warrant. Heywood is also remembered for his compilations of the vocabulary of the Tahitian language which he made while awaiting for the ship HMS Pandora to take him to England. John Fryer was one of those cast adrift in the launch with William Bligh following the mutiny on the H.M.S. bounty. Fryer and Bligh were on poor terms because of the promotion of Fletcher Christian - in rank Fryer's subordinate, to the position of second in command of the vessel.
